To help to design our level we decided that it would be a good idea to do gray blocking. This is where the layout of a room or level is created using plain blocks. The purpose of this is it then gives a clear idea of what the layout will be like and if it will need to be adjusted.
Piotr (Character Design) decided to create a simple gray block image showing a basic structure of what some of the rooms would look like. This will then allow us to design the backgrounds, the foregrounds, and the platforms that the player would stand on.
Reflecting on this, even though I didn’t make it I feel like it is extremely helpful in progressing further with our project knowing what needs to be made for where. The technique is extremely useful and easy to create and is definitely something that I will use for deciding what props need to go where within the level.
